Wonder if anyone is working on monographs/bios of some of the "big" names in portrait photography turn-of- the-century (19-20)
I would like to put on a small webpage featuring a certain "Big Six" as it was known - according to PPA publication of 1926
The group was composed of M.J. Steffens of Chicago;
Simon Stein of Milwaukee; Frank Scott Clark of Detroit;
Pirie MacDonald of New York City; F.A. Rinehart of Omaha, and Julius C. Strauss of St.Louis.
I have good info on Steffens(along with fine collection of photo archives); bits & pieces on the others. If anyone is working on,or knows some good bio info on them and would like to share to put something together let me know. I wish there was a site somewhere where one could just post a one page bio on photogs with photos of the photographer-which are often hard to find. Anyway..let me know.
thanks,
Tom Yanul
